MISSION, VISION and VALUES

MISSION STATEMENT:

By God's grace, Algoma Christian School seeks to assist Christian families and churches in nurturing, training, and discipling their children.

Summary Mission Statement:  "Helping Families Make Disciples"

VISION STATEMENT:

Algoma Christian School graduates are discipled to be champions of faith who are academically prepared to fulfill God’s calling upon their lives. As spiritual champions, they are challenged to be Christ-like, heeding Jesus’ admonition to love God with all their hearts, souls, minds, and strength, and to love their neighbors as themselves. Because Christ is the Truth, Algoma Christian School embraces Truth and disciples its students in God’s Word, which is Truth. Therefore, we seek academic excellence that is centered in the Truth of God revealed to man, and teach our students to be lovers of truth.

Summary Vision Statement:  “Love and serve God and others, and love truth”

CORE VALUES:

 1.  We Value the authority of Scripture (Scriptural Truth)

We believe that the Bible is the inerrant word of the living God and is our sole guide for faith and practice.  We believe that the Bible is knowable, absolute truth and should be interpreted literally, grammatically, historically, and culturally.  Consequently, we believe that the world was created in six, 24-hour, solar days by the power of God, apart from any evolutionary processes.  As a reflection of the authority of God's Word, we value and practice the integration of God's Word into all subject matter taught at our school.

2.  We value the application of Truth (Truth in Action)

Biblical truth must be applied in order to be our guide for faith and practice.  God's truth influences every facet of our lives.  Because God's Word teaches that we are image-bearers, we are given a foundation for honoring the sanctity of human life and a reason for self-esteem that is not tied to performance or approval.  God's truth is the motivation for the development of life skills such as leadership, biblical problem solving, critical thinking, maturing faith, and a faithful prayer life.  Because the school functions as a microcosm of life, students learn from the joys and challenges of community and grow in their abilities to love, respect and worship together.

3.  We value God-honoring attitudes (Attitudinal Truth)

Knowing truth shapes our thinking and our attitudes about life, and we are reminded that success in life is 90% attitude.  As our students are exposed to God's truth, the following attitudes will develop:  self-discipline and respect for authority, patriotism, accountability, and responsibility that filters into all areas of life.  Simply put, truth makes us people of excellence and integrity.

4.  We value partnership with the home and the church (Partners in Truth)

God has given the responsibility of training children to the parents; the school, with the help of the church, serves as a support system for parents engaged in this task.  Truth echoed in both the church and Christian school reinforces a consistent message in young minds.  As teachers and coaches act as role models in the day-to-day activities of  school, church, and community life, they broaden students' opportunities to see authentic faith protrayed in the world.

5.  We value the availability of Christian education for all who seek it (Truth for All)

Algoma Christian School's founding premise has been to keep Christian education affordable for families who desire to have their children attend.  Those in leadership at the school have provided means to make this premise a reality.  Likewise, we believe that racial, cultural, and socio-economic barriers should not stand in the way of receiving a Christian education.  We are all made in the image of God and possess inestimable value in the sight of God, despite our circumstances in life; this reality should be reflected in our Christian school.

Summary of our Core Values:

1.  Scriptural Truth
2.  Truth in Action
3.  Attitudinal Truth
4.  Partners in Truth
5.  Truth for All
